Obama favorites create wardrobe for Chicago 2016 delegation

banner
Chicago 2016 announced that the presentation apparel being worn by the delegation in Copenhagen, Denmark has been designed by three Chicago-based designers, including neckwear designer Lee Allison, venerable clothing brand Hart Schaffner Marx, and renowned designer Maria Pinto. The designers donated their time to work with the bid and have provided the clothing at cost.

It is customary for bid city delegations to wear official apparel to signify teamwork and cohesion.

“On October 2, Chicago will be on an international stage, and our city’s fashion designers will share in the spotlight,” said Patrick G. Ryan, chairman and CEO of Chicago 2016. “Our bid plan celebrates Chicago and we are proud to showcase the talents of the art and design community that thrives here. We appreciate the support of Chicago’s business community and our world-renowned fashion designers.”

The female delegates traveling to Copenhagen will be wearing the designs of Maria Pinto, who has established a name for herself in Chicago and is now well-recognized in the world of fashion. An alumna of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Pinto majored in fine art with a focus in fashion, and later attended both New York’s Parson’s School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Pinto opened the doors to her first boutique in the city’s West Loop neighborhood, drawing celebrity clients like First Lady Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.

Another Chicago-based style maker, Lee Allison, has been producing his own line of neckties, dress shirts and accessories since 1995. His distinctive silk ties are cut and sewn by hand in a studio located in one of Chicago’s most fashion-forward neighborhoods. Lee Allison creates the signature designs himself, and has been creating ties for Chicago 2016 since the bid’s beginning.

When asked by Chicago 2016 to help create the outfits for the male delegates going to Copenhagen, Chicago 2016 and Allison teamed up with clothier, Hart Schaffner Marx, another hometown favorite since 1872, to fully fashion the men for this significant event.

James Nolan wins International Lingerie Design Award

banner
On the opening night of the 2009 Milan Fashion Week, fashion design students from 28 countries and regions around the world presented their lingerie showpieces at the grand final of the Triumph Inspiration Award '09 in a fabulous catwalk show in the famous design museum, La Triennale. A celebrity expert judging panel, consisting of two-time Academy Award winning actress Hilary Swank, Editor in Chief of Vogue Italy Franca Sozzani, Hong Kong's international model Qi Qi, legendary fashion photographer Giovanni Gastel, co-founder and creative director of the fashion label Miss Sixty, Wichy Hassan, and Jan Rosenberg, Head of Global Sales and Marketing Triumph International, decided which design piece is the most creative interpretation of this year's award motto "Icons".

James Nolan, 20, Great Britain, convinced the jury with the interpretation of the icon "Odette and Odile" to become the winner of the Triumph Inspiration Award '09 and will pocket not only a cash prize of Euro 15,000 but also a career-boosting limited edition of the winning piece. James Nolan will see the showpiece adapted and interpreted by the Triumph design team, leading to series production of the set, which will be sold in selected Triumph stores worldwide in 2010. The jury awarded the design "Harbour Mirage" by Katinka Poole, 28, Australia, the second prize, receiving Euro 10,000 and Shani Elkin, 24, Israel, with "Jerusalem" won Euro 5,000 as third prize.

At the grand final of the Triumph Inspiration Award '09, all competing finalists were under the scrutiny of the demanding jurors. "Success is the result of talent and hard work. I am thrilled to see how both come together in these passionate pieces by young fashion design students - they truly deserve a stage such as the Triumph Inspiration Award", stated two-time Academy Award winning actress Hilary Swank.

No shine look & My Village hit Lakme ramp

banner
Kallol Datta and Rimzim Dadu gave interesting fashion directions for S/S 2010 at Lakme Fashion Week.

Using natural fabrics like kora, cotton, mul, voile, net and crepe, Kallol Datta moved away from conventional fashion as usual and went for the No shine look with his signature prints for Spring/Summer 2010 at Lakme Fashion Week.

Last season it was the stark mannequin motif that appeared on his garments and as jewellery. This time his prints were dragonflies, bees and Him and Her logo prints which appeared for the “Avant Garde F’ck” collection in geometric forms under his label Kallol Datta 1955. The colours were limited to ecru, pink, jade, black and beige but it was the construction of the garments that was characteristic of the designer. Drapes appeared at the hem and at the back, dual tones were used for front wrap dresses and the silhouette was egg shaped with fullness at the midriff graduating down or in front.

The 20 pieces was a thinking person’s collection that was starkly simple and elegant, but with a lot of interesting construction elements that Kallol is famous for. It is difficult to single out any of the outfits, since each one will be a great seller with people who want stylish interesting conversation pieces. But the lopsided dress with drapes on the side, the junta wrap overlay, the swinging dress and the winged hem on one side, or the net over solid jade, were part of a great collection.

Although Kallol Datta has followed his silhouette lines of last season, there is a bit of reinvention he added, which will make this collection also a hit with the young trendy dressers for Spring/Summer 2010.

Lara Dutta loves Raakesh Agarvwal’s collection

banner

A multi sphere gold chandelier hung in the centre of the ramp with trailing chains, to set the mood for an incredible bridal wear collection.

For Spring/Summer 2010 at Lakme Fashion Week Raakesh Agarvwal, moved away from his Red Carpet look for which he is famous for and went into opulent bridal wear with all the glittering touches. Presenting gorgeous lehengas, jackets, saris and gowns in lush colours like violet, aubergine, fuchsia, plum, peach, indigo, purple to ivory, ecru, crème and finally gold; he worked with rich fabrics that ranged from silk, tulle, net, satin, chiffon and jersey.

Revolving his collection around crystals and chain mail embroidery that drenched the collection, Raakesh leaned towards western cuts and his favourite shaded effects.

Starting the show with some sexy draped and basket weave minis and gowns - some strapless or with a single shoulder - the show moved to saris worn only with glittering churidars, which were amazing and complete show stoppers. While keeping the six yard traditional drape completely free of embellishment, Raakesh instead teamed it with dazzling ornate cholis, blouses and jackets. Raakesh has always scored with his choli designs and this time he outdid himself as glittering pieces with intricate cuts and at times almost backless, were the real scene stealers.

The gowns that followed were slinky and seductive in red, maroon or gold - each so beautiful that Bollywood and even Hollywood divas would long to wear them. The chain mail maroon and gold sequined/crystal blouse, and dress teamed with shimmering churi pants were part of the bridal look while the lehengas were often plain and at other times with sprinkles of glitter.

Deepika Pandukone crackles on ramp for Gauri & Nainika

banner
Cascades of long drapes descended from the ceiling, a giant visual of the Grey Goose Journeys around the world set the stage for one of the most glamorous and elegant retro haute couture shows of the day.

Black, white and red - the eternal colour story was the only selection by designers, Gauri and Nainika for their
Spring/Summer 2010 collection presented by Grey Goose at Lakme Fashion week. With delicate vintage touches for their garments, which the duo is famous for, they gave women’s wear that aura of sophistication and style.

Moving away a little from their trademark gowns, the pair designed shorter hemlines for part of the show with interesting detailing on the garments.Roses bloomed on most of the amazingly tailored and finished creations in chiffon, satin and organza.

For the opening, the sultry voice Geane, the renowned jazz singer, crooned as nine fiery red garments inspired by La Beaute Rouge the new martini for Grey Goose was a dramatic section that made it almost show stopping in its beauty. But it was only the start of an incredible journey of exquisite beauty as the black and white creations glided down the ramp. Giant bows and roses, perfectly moulded gowns and dresses and the amazing designs by these talented creative sisters have won them the title of Top Couturiers for Red Carpet ensembles.

Hottest boy John Abraham walks for Rocky S ‘Glam Meets Goth’

banner
Rocky S, the favourite of Bollywood stars moved from the female to the male realm of fashion for Spring/Summer 2010 at Lakme Fashion Week with a collection that was reminiscent of an old world charm that brought together such diverse themes as gothic, punk and vintage vampire wedding attire.

Classic sharply cut suits in masculine tones of black, steel, grey, deep blue, lush violet moved to wine, beige and ivory. Rich luxurious fabrics were the base as glittering brocades jacquards, textured striped silk blends, hounds tooth, gabardine, tweed, felt, German bird’s eye and even some very interesting upholstery material was turned into very avant garde men’s wear.

Detailing was unconventional with elbow patches or lace borders on cuffs, collars, lapels on backs of jackets and pockets which added a touch of drama to the clothes. The jackets varied between one to two buttons closures and with single or double back vents. Trousers were skin tight while lapels were either peaked or notched and medium width. Waist coats appeared occasionally in gold brocade or matching fabrics. The four women’s gold, beige lace and black layered gowns were the icing on the collection.

banner

Keeping in line with celebrity mom Jenny McCarthy's mission to build a better environment for children, TOO GOOD by Jenny has partnered with PEM America to launch a line of affordable, non-toxic infant & juvenile products, including bedding, bath textiles, room decor and newborn gift sets. The licensing agreement was developed and negotiated by Los Angeles-based new business development consultancy Brand Sense Partners, LLC (BSP).

The line will debut in bedding and will reflect McCarthy's passion for creating safe, non-toxic surroundings for children with a focus on safety, technology and design. TOO GOOD plans to pretest raw materials prior to reaching the manufacturing stage and will also test all products for lead and phthalates with results posted prior to the product arriving in any retailer. New improvements, such as reversible sets and Aloesoothe, an innovative, Aloe-enhanced finishing technology, will help to further differentiate TOO GOOD from its competitors, while offering some of the best crib sheet options on the market. TOO GOOD will also strive to bridge the gap between education and fashion. Specific textures, colors and icons will be used to enhance early learning and storytelling, while chic and clutter-free design will allow parents to provide more than one look which will bring continued smiles to parents and children alike.

"We are extremely excited to partner with TOO GOOD to introduce this line of safe and affordable children's products," said Keith Schneider, senior vice president for PEM America. "The TOO GOOD brand is part of McCarthy's efforts to advocate for reducing children's exposure to unsafe and unhealthy products and we are unwaveringly aligned with that mission as well."

Wildcat print strikes at Wickedelic Lingerie

banner
They do claim that a wild cat the size of a Puma stalks the hinterland of Dartmoor with many a sighting of oversized black felines reported in the area - usually late on a Saturday night.

But at the Wickedelic Lingerie warehouse, perched on the very edge of Dartmoor, they find themselves under siege from a wide variety of wild creatures.

Of course, this leading online and mail order supplier of erotic lingerie has nothing to do with real wild animals, nor has there been a mass breakout from Paignton Zoo or Dartmoor Wildlife Park but rather it now offers a wide range of this seasons must have look – animal print effect lingerie.

Nick Gibbens, PR and Online Sales Manager at Wickedelic Lingerie, explains: “Our shelves are full of slips, stockings, tights, leggings, thongs, knickers, chemises, bras in a wide variety of animal print material. Especially popular are Tiger and Leopard effects in a variety of colours and materials.”

Wickedelic Lingerie proudly insists that no actual wild animals were hurt in the making of their highly fashionable garments - as Nick explains. “Here at Wickedelic Lingerie we can safely say that you can wear our beautifully made Leopard and Tiger print, sexy lingerie with a totally clear conscience.

A*Muse, Pamela Anderson to bring beach fashion at NZFW

banner
Richie Rich, New York fashion designer will launch his latest collection, A*Muse, featuring Pamela Anderson at New Zealand Fashion Week in Auckland on September 25, 2009. This will be the first stop on a worldwide promotional tour in which Rich and Anderson will be introducing the brand to major cities in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.

The A*Muse brand will be an animal-friendly, organic line, consisting of bathing suits, designer printed t-shirts featuring images of Pamela Anderson and the designer himself, including hoodies and zip ups, a full range of casual dresses, and beachwear.

Richie Rich has been defined by many as New York’s modern day Warhol. It seemed appropriate that Richie would incorporate the images of the muses that have inspired him over the years into his designs. Richie knew, from the beginning, that the first muse for this collection had to be his longtime friend, Pamela Anderson. “Pam has long been a source of inspiration to me, she has this amazing combination of the sweet girl next door but in the most glamorous of ways -- I love her lust for life!” Richie describes the A*Muse collection inspired by Anderson as, “fun, sexy, surfer girl from Malibu meets Andy Warhol.”

Lingerie specialist Van de Velde selects Lectra VectorLingerieMX

banner
Lectra, the world leader in integrated technology solutions dedicated to the fashion industry, is pleased to announce that Van de Velde, specialist in luxury lingerie, has acquired the VectorLingerieMX to optimize its production.

Established in 1919, Van de Velde designs and manufactures luxurious women’s lingerie under the brand names Marie Jo, Marie Jo L'Aventure and PrimaDonna with impeccable product quality as their main objective.

In line with this philosophy, core activities such as design, product development, prototyping, fabric cutting, and quality control are performed at the company’s headquarters in Schellebelle, Belgium.

Guided by the desire to satisfy their very demanding clientele of around 5 000 people worldwide, the company presents 300 new models and ships more than five million finished articles per year.

Van de Velde: stringent specifications
With a view to guaranteeing permanent quality products, whilst at the same time increasing productivity, Van de Velde carried out a study of the different options available on the market.

One of the biggest challenges faced by the company is to ensure the highest possible cutting quality for all the components that are used to make their products.

Lingerie articles contain many components, which are often small and intricately shaped, and the slightest fault in cutting complicates the whole system, and may lead to a serious drop in product quality.

Having tested and assessed existing machines, in the end, Van de Velde settled on the Lectra VectorLingerieMX which provided the best offer in terms of quality, efficiency and productivity.
