banner
Iconix Brand Group, Inc. announced that international icon, Britney Spears, has designed her first ever collection of apparel and accessories for its Candie's brand. The limited edition collection, "Britney for Candie's," will be exclusively available at Kohl's Department Stores and kohls.com/candies starting in July to kick off the back-to-school season.

The "Britney for Candie's" limited edition collection will be supported with a national marketing campaign including a television commercial, print ad, outdoor, online as well as being integrated into Kohl's back-to-school marketing initiatives.

Britney Spears said, "I was so excited when Candie's asked me to design my very own clothing collection. Designing was a really fun, new way for me to express my creativity and I really wanted to create something by me for my fans. I hope you guys love it."

This marks the pop star's first foray into fashion designing. Spears is best known for her chart-topping multi-platinum albums and is now moving into the fashion realm. "Britney for Candie's" is a mixture of day and evening looks, from the best jean to the must have LBD (Little Black Dress). The collection was inspired by Spears' favorite music and movies and personally designed by the star.

The marketing campaign shows Spears wearing her limited edition collection along with her personal handwritten notes such as, "You'll love these jeans!" and "Love this skirt for dancing...fun & flirty." The campaign features the tagline, "Designed by me for you!"

Dari Marder, chief marketing officer, Iconix Brand Group, stated, "This was a great opportunity to offer Britney fans a 'piece of her', through this limited edition collection that has been designed by Britney for them. It was a natural extension of Britney's long-standing partnership with Candie's and we were excited to offer her this new creative outlet, as she has always been extremely involved in the fashion process on set. Our Candie's customer will be thrilled to own exclusive clothing and accessories created by Britney."

Spears hosted a fashion presentation in Los Angeles for friends and family to launch her exclusive collection. She hand-selected her biggest fans to be a part of the show and model her favorite looks from the line.

The print campaign was created by the Iconix in-house marketing team and shot by fashion photographer Cliff Watts, and the television commercial was produced by famed music video director, Chris Applebaum. The campaign was shot in Hollywood, CA.

Julie Gardner, Kohl's executive vice president and chief marketing officer, stated, "We are incredibly excited to launch the highly-anticipated Britney for Candie's collection exclusively at Kohl's stores nationwide and Kohls.com for the back-to-school season. The partnership between Iconix and Britney for the Candie's Only at Kohl's campaign continues to evolve in fun and innovative ways, and we are confident this new limited-edition collection will resonate with our young customers."

Design am Rhein for young & aspiring fashion talents

banner

Adieu Tristesse! In hard economic times it is the creative industry that undergoes a noticeable boom, as is particularly the case now. People are searching for something new and fresh, they want to get back to essentials and reinvent themselves. Those looking for endless retro recycling will search in vain as this has long since gone out of fashion.

In cooperation with fashion and design school AMD Akademie Mode & Design Düsseldorf the Igedo Company is now tapping into this dynamism and will once again, also at the February 2010 edition of cpd, be initiating the competition “Design am Rhein” for young and aspiring European fashion talents.

“Design am Rhein” promotes dialogue between the creative minds in the sector. It arouses the public’s attention, dazzles, surprises and prompts new ideas. The cpd is an opportunity for the next generation: ten finalists will be competing here for first place with their collections. Awaiting the winner will be an individual sponsorship programme along with a presentation drawing effective attention in the media.

From the 92 international entrants ten young designers from six countries have made it into the final of this year’s competition. In a final show organised by the Igedo Company a top-class international jury of experts will select up to five winners who will receive a stand for two seasons at cpd. The first prize-winner will also be allowed to present their collection at CPM. The award ceremony will be held at cpd on at 4.00 pm on 7 February at Showcase Düsseldorf in Hall 11.

Andrea Kristic was born in Sarajevo in 1986 and studied fashion design at the Artez Institute of the Arts in Arnheim. Her fashion follows an intellectual approach seeking a new interpretation of the modern woman where gender roles are broken up and male components play a major role. Her designs combine classic and high-quality fabrics with futuristic materials to create a partly flowing, partly static feel. Her current 2010/11 Autumn/Winter collection was inspired by the idea “panta rhei” – everything flows. Undulating folds in combination with flowing fabrics and billowing wool reflect shapes from nature and are a sign of total mobility.

The clothing might serve as a prescribed uniform for modern, future-oriented companies but also aims to generate a creative atmosphere and guarantee efficient work and wearer satisfaction.

James Nolan wins International Lingerie Design Award

banner
On the opening night of the 2009 Milan Fashion Week, fashion design students from 28 countries and regions around the world presented their lingerie showpieces at the grand final of the Triumph Inspiration Award '09 in a fabulous catwalk show in the famous design museum, La Triennale. A celebrity expert judging panel, consisting of two-time Academy Award winning actress Hilary Swank, Editor in Chief of Vogue Italy Franca Sozzani, Hong Kong's international model Qi Qi, legendary fashion photographer Giovanni Gastel, co-founder and creative director of the fashion label Miss Sixty, Wichy Hassan, and Jan Rosenberg, Head of Global Sales and Marketing Triumph International, decided which design piece is the most creative interpretation of this year's award motto "Icons".

James Nolan, 20, Great Britain, convinced the jury with the interpretation of the icon "Odette and Odile" to become the winner of the Triumph Inspiration Award '09 and will pocket not only a cash prize of Euro 15,000 but also a career-boosting limited edition of the winning piece. James Nolan will see the showpiece adapted and interpreted by the Triumph design team, leading to series production of the set, which will be sold in selected Triumph stores worldwide in 2010. The jury awarded the design "Harbour Mirage" by Katinka Poole, 28, Australia, the second prize, receiving Euro 10,000 and Shani Elkin, 24, Israel, with "Jerusalem" won Euro 5,000 as third prize.

At the grand final of the Triumph Inspiration Award '09, all competing finalists were under the scrutiny of the demanding jurors. The jury judged all entries according to the same criteria: innovation and creativity in interpreting the design motto "Icons", individuality, concept, aesthetics, quality in design and execution, as well as presentation. "Success is the result of talent and hard work. I am thrilled to see how both come together in these passionate pieces by young fashion design students - they truly deserve a stage such as the Triumph Inspiration Award", stated two-time Academy Award winning actress Hilary Swank.
