Military khakis become edgy ‘Green’ styles

banner

EM & Co’s Fashion Installation portrayed a ‘Brave New World’ for the new decade, on March 18, 2010, with statuesque models and a custom-mixed music overlay of opera and punk, as it celebrated the re-launch of EM Reconstruct’s mini-collection showing how military khakis can be fashionably ‘green’, and Angela Dean’s ready-to-wear collection which proved that looking stylishly hot is not size-exclusive.

Angela Dean’s futuristic silver jersey dresses and vintage-inspired brocade coats are designed to flatter all body shapes and types. The store-exclusive EM Reconstruct label showed edgy military-inspired looks re-constructed out of recycled army clothing by EM and Krys-N-Jack.

“It’s a brave new world this new decade, fashion-wise,” says Eveline Morel, EM & Co founder. “Designers have to brave the economic situation, think outside the box, and deal with changing consumer trends, growing eco-consciousness, and a growing demand for cutting-edge fashion that fits women of all sizes and body types.”

The EM Reconstruct label represents the latest trend in eco-conscious fashion: up-cycling of garments. Combining edgy trend-setting style with eco-friendly practices, existing garments are re-fashioned and modified, sometimes beyond recognition, into new garments. Each garment is individually created, no two garments are ever identical. EM Reconstruct releases a themed mini-collection each quarter, created by EM and other local designers.

Crystals By Carmen - most awesome creation

banner
Talented singer Carmen Carter has captivated the 20 million viewers of ABC's hit Emmy-nominated TV show "Dancing with the Stars," not only with her dynamic voice but with her dazzling headpieces (also known as Nayaris). For more than nine seasons, "Dancing with the Stars" professional dancers, celebrities, fans, and friends have shown great interest in wearing the Carter's Nayaris. Due to such high interest, Carter created her patent-pending "Crystals By Carmen" collection of Nayaris, which are now available to everyone.

Although the "Crystals By Carmen" jewelry collection includes casual and exotic Nayaris, and jewelry for special occasions, her initial focus is on her bridal/formal collection, which includes several stunning pearl Nayaris, necklace sets and accessories which are embellished with Austrian or Swarovski crystals. Her formal line, which she includes in her bridal collection, is quite extensive, colorful and truly dazzling. Each Nayari is secured by Carmen's special patent-pending mounted hair clip that holds them in place, insuring a proper yet adjustable fit. Either collection is well suited for weddings, pageants, proms, quinceaneras and special occasions. Crystals By Carmen's jewelry collection of Nayaris, bridal/formal jewelry and accessories are affordable, ranging from $35 to $350. Many pieces are made with lead-free and nickel-free metals, Austrian or Swarovski crystals and beautiful stones.

Due to Carter's allergic reaction to the metals contained in the necklaces she once wore, and the fact that bindis weren't visible on camera, she began making her own Nayaris and wearing them on "Dancing with the Stars." It was not long before she became known as "the singer who wears the dazzling crystal headpieces," (aka Nayaris).

"Each Nayari is meant to reflect a woman's inner beauty and strength. It is to be worn with humility," says designer Carter. "I hope that every time a woman wears a Crystals By Carmen Nayari or accessory, she is reminded that she is the most awesome creation that has been placed on this earth and that she is worthy of acknowledgment."

Exciting Night Fever brings down LFW curtains

banner
Suneet Varma’s stunning grand finale collection inspired by Lakmé’s night fever Summer 2010 was an extravagant end to Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2010

The Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hotel was draped with metres of fabrics cascading down from the ceiling in lush panels. Three giant silver globes rotated from the ceiling throwing twinkling stars on the walls. A windmill gently rotated to the left of the stage while a silver balcony on the right of the stage was reserved for Medival Punditz Shai’r and Func who provided the most exciting live music for the show. As the show started a white curtain slid back to reveal a tableau against a glittering Spanish mansion. It was time for the most spectacular show of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/resort 2010.

Inspired by LAKMÉ’S NIGHT FEVER Summer 2010 collection which, comprises Enrich Satin Lip Color, Lip Artist, Eye Magic Black, Impact Eyeliner, Lash Artist, Aquashine and Glide on Eye Color; Suneet Varma created a dream of a line aptly titled NIGHT FEVER that was a breathtaking vision to behold.

Presented in five segments the collection with the glitter of Swarovski Elements was a modern look at fashion.

“Color My World” was filled with a blitz of colours mixed with patchwork and mix and match options. A glamorous array of creations - chiffon coat, easy tunics, draped dresses, were worn with colourful tights. Zigzag print coats and side knotted minis, panelled beach wraps, Spanish black floral tunic, long ponchos and embroidered jackets along with belts in large crystals and metallic armbands and necklaces completed the look.

“Call of the Wild” was an animal print, motif and texture story with colours like black, beige, chocolate and a bit of turquoise. Slinky evening bias cut gowns dazzled with peridots and topaz. Net kaftans, layered frayed edged skirts, tiny blouses and capes and stoles had tie-dyed, shading and Shibori. The glam turbans and gold bronze armlets gave a luxurious look to the creations.

“Pucchi Prints” was all about graphics and geometrics for minis with fabric buttons, hip length fitted jackets, skinny pants with slits and zips, and stately gowns in peach, cobalt, blue and emerald green. Hooded long gowns, psychedelic minis and kaftans along with pant suits were a colourful presentation.

Vikram Phadnis brings 'shimmer & shine' at resort fashion show

banner
Rimzim Dadu’s Line was a refreshing look at style during Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2010. Gold metallic chandelier leaves suspended from chains hung from the ceiling of the venue and the scene was set for a great resort fashion show.

Bollywood’s glamorous designer Vikram Phadnis revealed a new side to his creativity when Philips presented his truly international collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2010. The look was simple and sensuous unlike the usual Vikram Phadnis offerings; as the designer moved from shimmer and shine to beautiful elegant creations.

Working on a line of crème and black Vikram’s interpretation of the resort wardrobe was practical and stylish giving the wear the comfort that holiday attire must have.

With a choice of fluid fabrics like georgette, chiffon, jersey, crepe, linen and lace Vikram opened the show with comfortable morning wear comprising crème panelled swing tops, layered blouses, lace dungarees, Bermudas, summer jackets, jumpsuits, jersey Afghan pants, puff sleeved smocks, raglan belted chiffon dress with lace bell sleeves, capris and minis.

Gently introducing just a hint of glitter in the form of striped lame for minis, Vikram brought in black for collar edges and then moved further with black tights, a swirling black print on white chiffon cape, an interesting black mini with white U shaped inset and then added some very controlled gold and bead work for yoke, bodice and corsets.

Perfect Piece of Lingerie

banner
Lingerie is not only a simple piece of underwear that you wear beneath your outfit but it exceeds this by far. The right piece of lingerie can boost your self confidence and rectify any flaws you feel toward your body. Simply, the right piece of sexy lingerie can make you feel that you are the sexiest woman on earth and help you enjoy your intimate life with your partner.

Choosing the right piece of lingerie for your body depends on several factors. The first factor is your body size. Every body size has its own choices from sexy lingerie to make it look beautiful and charming. For example, if you have a petite body then, you need to choose the lingerie piece that increases the size of certain regions of your body.

A bustier or a wire framed bra can help to boost the size of your breasts and gives them desirable extra volume. In the same time, a wire framed bra is not suitable for a woman with an extra large breast unless she wants an extreme look of a sex goddess!! If you are a plus size then you should choose something that sculptures your body and gives you a thinner look. Sexy lingerie that is draping on your body and those made of opaque materials are the best for you.

They will give you the sexy look you are looking for and in the same time they will not reveal the real size of your body. Some plus size women are reluctant to wear sexy lingerie because they think that it will not suite them but, if you choose the right lingerie for your body type then you will get the look you want.

Choosing the fabric is very important too because it help delivering the sexy appearance and slims down your body. Leather sexy lingerie is suitable for small sizes because it fits snuggly around the body and shows the beautiful body you have while lace tied lingerie and corsets are more suitable for larger sizes because they slim down your body and cleave your waist region to give you an adorable look.

Anna’s fresh digital prints lend a modern edge to her classically flattering silhouettes. The new digital “swirl” print is a galaxy of muted tones with supernovas of bright pink. It transforms Anna’s silk pleat maxi dress with its sweeping lines and pintuck pleats into a graceful, contemporary statement piece.

Similarly, her wavy digital “spirograph” print gives bite to the elongated silhouette of Anna’s sleeveless jersey maxi dress with flattering gathering details.

The digital “paintbrush” print is a riot of rainbow watercolours splashed over breezy silk habotai. Anna’s handkerchief dress looks ethereal, edgy and elegant as it hangs in gossamer angles anchored by panels of black silk.

Fashion's Super Bowl : Red Carpet

banner
The Academy Award ceremonies have been around since l929 when a group of 270 guests met at the Biltmore Hotel and paid 5.00 dollars each for Lobster Eugenie and "Los Angeles Salad." Back then, it was all about the food, and apparently today, it's all about the fashion.

From feather boas and satin gowns of the twenties, to haute couture and the millions of dollars of jewels on loan today, this is the fashion industry's Super Bowl. And it's hard to remember a time when we watched the Oscars without the preliminary fashion show/product placement/walk of fame and shame that is known as the "Red Carpet."

The Sundance Channel tackles the phenomenon this Thursday (7:00 PM CST) with its documentary "The Red Carpet Issue." How does an awards ceremony honoring great achievements in film turn into an extension of the fashion industry? French journalist Olivier Nicklaus explores the trials and tribulations as stylists, fashion designers, publicists, and celebrities jockey for position for the best and brightest to wear on the red carpet.

As with everything in life, there is a dirty underbelly to the practice. According to the many editors, stylists, and industry insiders who were interviewed, the name of the game is exposure and press. Apparently fashion houses and clothing brands will do and pay just about anything to get their items on the back, on the arm or in the hands of a glamorous star.

How did it get to this point and what did we watch before? And does it matter if Penelope dons Versace, Angelina is wearing Prada, or Meryl is in Chanel? Nevertheless, the two-three hour pre-event (depending on which channel you watch) has become a permanent addition to the Oscar ceremony with the follow up best and worst dressed lists bumping everything off the news short of a nuclear holocaust. The red carpet has taken a life of its own -- I have even heard of college drinking games centered around how many times the viewer hears "what are you wearing" and "amazing." For a night, it's the ultimate reality television.

Lindsay Lohan & Ashley Greene Take Milan Fashion Week By Storm

Milan was the place to be over the weekend as Fall Fashion Week roared through the city. Clive Owen kicked things off solo on Friday at Emporio Armani before he joined up with Julianne Moore at the Bulgari Chandra party. Ashley Greene popped up in a variety of dresses, attending Giorgio Armani on Saturday with Clive and Gucci with Rachel Zoe.

Lindsay Lohan, meanwhile, spent her evening celebrating the launch of Vogue Italia's new website with editor Franca Sozzani, Claire Danes, and more. Yesterday brought Ashley Greene out for Dolce & Gabbana, while Lindsay Lohan cozied up to Roberto Cavalli at his show and afterparty. Elisabetta Canalis, the face of Roberto's underwear line, left George Clooney's side long enough to meet with the designer, then went back to her man.

Lindsay, who was back in the USA just last week stalking Samantha Ronson and partying her brains out, didn't waste any time once in Milan. She gallivanted around the city, palling around with Courtney Love and swapping spit with Roberto Cavalli himself.

The girl is a hot mess! Rumor has it that she actually cancelled a scheduled appearance at the Pure nightclub in Vegas once she heard she was invited to party in Milan with the fashion folk.

Lohan, who recently poured her heart out to The Sun while in London a few weeks back, claims to be getting her life back on track, but her friends insist the truth is anything but.
