The Most Famous Fragrance in the world is back again

banner

Millions of Americans search far and wide each year for the perfect Mother’s Day gift, but many end up settling for the traditional flowers and a card that are soon forgotten. For those people looking this year to get their mother, grandmother, or wife a special gift that they’ll never forget, The Vermont Country Store offers hundreds of unique, practical, and hard-to-find items for such an occasion.

“As a family-owned business, we are proud to offer unique and nostalgic items that help people show their love and admiration for the moms in their lives,” says Cabot Orton, proprietor of The Vermont Country Store. “Most mothers will tell you that they just want to be appreciated. Giving her an unusual gift, small or large, that shows your thoughtfulness will reflect how much you care.”

Consumers can search through The Vermont Country Store’s catalogues and two store locations in Vermont to find the perfect gift for Mother’s Day. A few of these items include:

Evening in Paris – “The Most Famous Fragrance in the World” is back again, as evocative as ever. From the daring decade of the 1920s came the fragrance Soir de Paris, or Evening in Paris. By the 1950s, it was touted as “the fragrance more women wear than any other in the world,” yet by 1969 it had disappeared. Now, it’s back at The Vermont Country Store.

Teacup of the Month – New to The Vermont Country Store, this is the perfect gift for tea lovers and porcelain collectors: a hand-painted teacup and saucer featuring the birth flower for each month. Gold leaf embellishes the handle, saucer, and the month’s name scripted inside the cup. Customers can purchase a single cup, all 12 at once, or have a cup delivered each month.

This year, every esteemed presenter and all the talented performers at the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony received a colorful, reusable bag made of DuPont Tyvek, courtesy of Earthwise Bag Company, Inc.

Earthwise, the largest reusable bag distributor in the U.S. was asked to provide a polypropylene bag to hold give-away items, and they decided to include a complimentary, colorful Tyvek reusable bag for each presenter and performer.

“We thought we would bring a little ‘green’ to the red carpet by sharing our new fashion bags made of DuPont Tyvek,” said Stan Joffe, president, Earthwise Bag Company. “We’ve had great response to these lightweight tote bags that are strong, portable, reusable and machine washable. And, when customers decide to dispose of them, they’re completely recyclable. There is no other reusable bag material that has all of these features, and we’re excited to include Tyvek in our product line.”

Exciting Night Fever brings down LFW curtains

banner
Suneet Varma’s stunning grand finale collection inspired by Lakmé’s night fever Summer 2010 was an extravagant end to Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2010

The Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Hotel was draped with metres of fabrics cascading down from the ceiling in lush panels. Three giant silver globes rotated from the ceiling throwing twinkling stars on the walls. A windmill gently rotated to the left of the stage while a silver balcony on the right of the stage was reserved for Medival Punditz Shai’r and Func who provided the most exciting live music for the show. As the show started a white curtain slid back to reveal a tableau against a glittering Spanish mansion. It was time for the most spectacular show of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/resort 2010.

Inspired by LAKMÉ’S NIGHT FEVER Summer 2010 collection which, comprises Enrich Satin Lip Color, Lip Artist, Eye Magic Black, Impact Eyeliner, Lash Artist, Aquashine and Glide on Eye Color; Suneet Varma created a dream of a line aptly titled NIGHT FEVER that was a breathtaking vision to behold.

Presented in five segments the collection with the glitter of Swarovski Elements was a modern look at fashion.

“Color My World” was filled with a blitz of colours mixed with patchwork and mix and match options. A glamorous array of creations - chiffon coat, easy tunics, draped dresses, were worn with colourful tights. Zigzag print coats and side knotted minis, panelled beach wraps, Spanish black floral tunic, long ponchos and embroidered jackets along with belts in large crystals and metallic armbands and necklaces completed the look.

“Call of the Wild” was an animal print, motif and texture story with colours like black, beige, chocolate and a bit of turquoise. Slinky evening bias cut gowns dazzled with peridots and topaz. Net kaftans, layered frayed edged skirts, tiny blouses and capes and stoles had tie-dyed, shading and Shibori. The glam turbans and gold bronze armlets gave a luxurious look to the creations.

“Pucchi Prints” was all about graphics and geometrics for minis with fabric buttons, hip length fitted jackets, skinny pants with slits and zips, and stately gowns in peach, cobalt, blue and emerald green. Hooded long gowns, psychedelic minis and kaftans along with pant suits were a colourful presentation.

Choose White Label this season

banner
This season, plus size designer Anna Scholz introduces her distinctly premium White Label collection. It features both of-the-moment and timeless silhouettes, incorporating striking colour palettes and eye-catching prints in luxury fabrics.

For the Spring-Summer ’10 White Label collection, Anna offers the flirty and flattering dresses that fans rely on as well as her signature kaftan and tunic styles with their bold prints and sequin embellishments. Her elegant tailoring and gorgeous coats are arresting and sexy.

Crepe Expectations
Anna loves to work with crepe jersey for its drape, its expensive weight and its versatility. Available in the season’s hot electric blue colour, Anna’s crepe wrap maxi dress sweeps in an elongating column. Her black fold-over jacket offers some of the sharp finish of a suit jacket or your boyfriend's blazer but in soft, feminine crepe which moves and flows.

Welcome to The Digital Age!
Anna’s fresh digital prints lend a modern edge to her classically flattering silhouettes. The new digital “swirl” print is a galaxy of muted tones with supernovas of bright pink. It transforms Anna’s silk pleat maxi dress with its sweeping lines and pintuck pleats into a graceful, contemporary statement piece.

Similarly, her wavy digital “spirograph” print gives bite to the elongated silhouette of Anna’s sleeveless jersey maxi dress with flattering gathering details.

The digital “paintbrush” print is a riot of rainbow watercolours splashed over breezy silk habotai. Anna’s handkerchief dress looks ethereal, edgy and elegant as it hangs in gossamer angles anchored by panels of black silk.

‘Textile Design Source' book – Must have for every designer

banner
The Tif-f-labs School of Fashion, based in Tirupur, which has been promoted by the Tirupur Industrial Federation (TIF), is coming out with a first of its kind “Textile Design Source” book, which will be released shortly.

The main unique selling proposition (USP) of the book is that textile designers can use the designs in the manual as a base to re-produce 10,000 more designs.

The designs have been so created to be helpful to all segments of the textile value-chain, like home textiles, clothing and any other conceivable applications.

In particular, this source manual could prove to be helpful to MSMEs and SMEs in the textile sector as it will help them bring out impressively designed products. In short, it is a must have for every textile designer.

The book which took 12 months to compile contains around 400 designs and has drafted with assistance from Textiles Committee, a entity under the Ministry of Textiles, under its cluster development initiative.

Interested textile designers or companies may place their orders for the book with Mr Vikram Kumar on +91 98947-97774.

Celebrate spring with 'The Inspired Life'

banner

For Spring 2010, Cole Haan has partnered with fashion photographer Todd Selby (aka "The Selby") to create a new advertising campaign, "The Inspired Life." The imagery celebrates family, friends, art, nature, community, competition, adventure, and love -- the forces that drive and color our lives.

The campaign portrays real life individuals wearing Cole Haan, chosen for their unique approaches to life and style, reflective of the Cole Haan brand. Each individual was shot in their natural environment, producing a campaign that reveals everyday interests rendered meaningful and beautiful.

The tastemakers selected for the ad campaign include Harley Viera-Newton, a professional DJ and NYU student, Nicola Vassel, gallery director for Deitch Projects, Johnny Knapp, a writer, surfer, and entrepreneur, Magda Wosinka, a music industry photographer and guitarist, Moses Berkson, a photographer and music video director, and James Bond, a designer, surfer, and skater. International tennis sensation, Maria Sharapova the face of Cole Haan for the past two seasons and co-designer of a capsule collection for the brand -- is also featured.

As Cole Haan expands its digital presence, partnering with a photographer widely known for his work through TheSelby.com was a fitting match. Visitors to colehaan.com can view in-depth portraits of the tastemakers including slide shows, behind-the-scenes videos and The Selby's quirky handwritten interviews. Selby says, "By working with creative and dynamic people for this collaboration with Cole Haan, we were able to highlight the youthful and energetic spirit of the brand. It was a super fun project that developed very organically and I think that comes across in the photos."

The campaign will be supported with a fully integrated marketing campaign including a debut in the March issues of top women's and men's fashion titles, online, out of home, direct mail and in-store.

Origany loved by Hollywood celebrities at ‘Boom-Boom Room’

banner

Origany's eco-friendly apparel was showered with compliments from more than 80 celebrity moms and dads at a two-day pre-Golden Globes event called "Boom-Boom Room" at Century Plaza in Beverly Hills.

The daughter of Golden Globe winner Jason Reitman will be wearing Origany as Michelle Reitman decided on the green pintex dress for their daughter. Reitman, director of "Juno" and "Up In The Air" co-wrote "Up in the Air" and won his first Golden Globe for Best Screenplay-Motion Picture.

Samantha Harris, co-host of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," picked up a purple Baby Alpaca/organic cotton knit dress for her two and a half year old daughter and was very pleased with it. Nancy O'Dell from "Access Hollywood" said, "[I] love the way your clothes feel and really love that they are organic!" Tony award winner and host of "Dance Your Ass Off" Marissa Jaret Winokur gushed over the reversible baby hoodie for her 18-month-old son.

Golden Globe nominated Joely Fisher from FOX's "Til Death" was very excited about Origany's line of certified organic cotton and baby alpaca apparel for babies and toddlers. She got two Baby Alpaca/Organic Cotton dresses for her soon to be two-year-old and four-year-old daughters.

Tiffani Thiessen, currently starring in USA's "White Collar," and also known for her roles in "Saved By the Bell" and the original "Beverly Hills 90210," chose the paisley kimono-style bodysuit for the little one she is expecting in May 2010, while Busy Phillips from ABC's hit show "Cougar Town" loved the Baby Alpaca/ Organic Cotton dress. "This dress is so soft, sweet and organic. It's perfect!" Phillips exclaimed.

Soap stars including Michelle Stafford, "Phyllis Newman," and Kate Linder, "Esther," from "Young and The Restless," as well as long-time "Lucky Spencer" from "General Hospital" Greg Vaughan all oohed and aahed over various items from our organic cotton line. "Lizzie Spaulding" from "Guiding Light," Marcy Rylan, and her husband said, "We love love the reversible baby hoodie!"

Celebrity moms weren't the only ones getting clothes for their little kids. Celeb dad Larry Birkhead chose a pleated purple dress for his four-year-old daughter with the late Anna Nicole Smith, Dannielynn. Evan Handler, who stars in "Californication," but known to many as Charlotte's husband from "Sex and The City," went with the same outfit for his three-year-old daughter.

Copenhagen Fashion Summit Advocates Green Approach

banner
The spectacular Opera house was the setting for The Fashion Summit held in Copenhagen on Dec. 9th. Over 500 attendees gathered to hear wonderful speakers give their take on more environmentally-friendly and ethical approaches to fashion and apparel. An eye-popping fashion show featuring new gen designers high-lighted by Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary added an exciting visual dimension.

Christian Kemp-Griffin, Edun, Laurant Claquin, PPR Group, Vanessa Friedman, Fashion Editor for Financial Times, Manuel Baigorri, Levi Strauss & Co, Marjorie Yang, Esquel Group, Ros Harvey, Better Work and Julia Gilhart, Senior VP at Barneys New York spoke to a rapt audience of Nordic fashion companies and media on the most important issue of our time: Taking responsibility being the key to success in the fashion business of the future.

HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark arrived to over-see the catwalk-show show-casing 20 new gen Nordic designers, and she held a short speech on the importance of NICE, and the jury's reasoning for chosing Finnish designer Saara Lepokorpi as the recipient of 50.000 DKK. The panel of judges were Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor at H&M, Laird Borelli-Persson, Senior Features Editor style.com, Fern Mallis, Senior VP of IMG Fashion, Erin Mullaney, Browns and Ann-Sofie Johansson, Head of design at H&M.

Several issues were brought to the forefront during the day, also as a part of a panel discussion which rounded off the day, moderated by Peter Ingwersen, the founder of the Danish brand NOIR, one very relevant issue being brought up by Vanessa Friedman: We need clarity som the consumer understands what this is about, which comes back to a lexicon for sustainable fashion. A customer in a store will never read anything that exceedes a twitter message in length.

A wonderful dinner was hosted by the Lord Mayor Ritt Bjerregaard at Copenhagen's City Hall following the Fashion Summit, where Crown Princess Mary, the Norwegian ambassador and his wife, and Lene Nystrøm were among the distinguished guests. The chance for Nordic designers to inter-act and discuss their common challenges in a global market, was one of the unique aspects of the conference. An exhibit by C.L.A.S.S. showing off eco-friendly textiles also engaged the designers, along with a better understanding of what enzymes can do to avoid harsh chemicals. (For more information on C.L.A.S.S. and Novozymes enzyme-processes, see "Production" under "Professional guide" and "Resources".)
